How You Feel About How You Look Matters

Becoming satisfied with your own body image matters. Sometimes, eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly isn’t enough to help you reach your ideal look. At O’Toole Plastic Surgery, we understand that frustration and invite you to meet with us to talk further about your goals so we can devise a plan that makes sense for you.

Dr. James O'Toole was the first plastic surgeon in the United States to become fellowship-trained in body contouring, specifically after massive weight loss. He is well-versed is treating both men and women and would be happy to talk with you more about the liposuction option.

Liposuction can be an ideal solution for individuals who are at or near their ideal weight, but have areas of fat that won’t respond to diet and exercise. Liposuction sometimes includes the use of lasers. Liposuction and laser liposuction create great looking results, improving problem areas of the body to their former youthful look.

Liposuction and laser liposuction are designed to treat localized areas of fat on the body, face or neck that have exceptionally stubborn pockets of fat, and/or are out of proportion to the rest of the body.

This process is performed, by liquefying fat in the problem area. There are two major techniques – Tumescent liposuction, or the “super wet" technique, and ultrasonic liposuction. Sometimes a combination of the two techniques is used. Once the fat is broken down, a small suction tube called a cannula removes the fat.

Liposuction is not a substitute for dieting and exercise. It relies on natural skin tightening. It does not treat cellulite, or the “cottage cheese” type of fat that often occurs on thighs and buttocks. Both liposuction and laser liposuction can, however, result in a dramatic, permanent, and more youthful appearance.

The areas of the body that are most commonly treated in women include the inner/outer thighs, hips, abdomen and occasionally the knees, calves and ankles. For men, the “love handles” of the abdomen are the most frequently treated area. Occasionally, the chest is treated with liposuction as well.

Both men and women find that liposuction of the neck effectively improves a double chin, with a very impressive result.
